Need help asap with dieing fish ><

one of my giant danios is basically laying on the gravel, and breathing quickly, hes upsidedown. His stomach looks a little bloated but i had fed them a few hours before. His fin back fin also looks a little red, kind of like he scrapped it.

Iv looked around and cant find anything about this really.

He is almost 4 years old, is it just his time?
 
What does a first responder do?

Check for Airway, Breathing, and Cardiac function.

The aquarist's equivalent is ammonia, and nitrite. What are they?

Any recent/sudden changes in pH or temperature?

Are the other Danios behaving strangely?

Are you missing any smaller inhabitants that it (the distressed fish) might have tried to eat?
 
sry was in a rush :\, 0ammonia 0nitrite, 5ppm nitrate, ph is a steady 7.2 and has been for years.

some pond snails in the tank but i dont think that would bother him, iv seen him eat them before.
 
all the other fish seem fine as well. i decided to disturb him a little, he swam around but was VERY twitchy, like he is semi paralyzed.
 
He is swimming around constantly now but still VERY oddly and it seems if he doesnt try his back end floats up a little. maybe swim bladder?

i wish i had a q-tank but i dont, just moved a few months ago and have been lazy to empty boxes

Hi.

It could very well be gill flukes.

It affects the breathing of the fish and they tend to look "lazy" for lack of a better term.

They also breath very rapidly, and tend to dart around in sudden burst then go back to the lazy resting position.

Do you have any anti-parasitic meds lying around?

Granted I'm just shooting in the dark here, but by some of your discription it could be flukes.

I figured I throw out another possiblity??

If the Danio still lives...

A Q-tank doesn't have to be an actual aquarium. Anything that'll hold water and has never been exposed to soaps/detergents/etc. will do. A new plastic pail from the grocery store will do nicely. An airstone will provide the necessary surface agitation.

You can see those, if you look carefully at the fish's gills.
