Need help ASAP with FW Eel

ok so for brackish water, do i just drop salt in the tank or salt in a cup? If its salt in a cup, wont the angels do ok? i have a cup of aquarium salt in the angel tank right now. Will that not work?

OK well he seems to be doing just fine and I've researched how to set up a brackish water tank. Now my only concern is food. I fed him some shrimp a few hours ago but he hasn't eaten it and I'm in no rush for him to eat it but i know that with fish when they don't eat their food you're supposed to remove it so it doesn't rot or whatever so does the same rule apply when feeding the eel?

you should try some live food first just to get it to eat, it might not accept anything else yet. Like everyone else said, angels are not compatible with it, need opposite water conditions.

Not quite sure what you mean. For brackish water you need to mix up the salt into some new water in a bucket or container. If its something like instant ocean marine mix I think 15 minutes is enough for it to dissolve. Then add to the tank. Other types of salt might take longer. Aquarium salt is usually said to be insufficient for brackish water, you need to use marine salt (which has a lot more in it other than just sodium chloride). Dont make any sudden changes in salinity, you could shock fish and bio filter. And to do it right you'll need either a hydrometer (not recommended) or better yet a refractometer so you can measure the salinity of the water. Good luck.

Sorry maybe i confused some people, i haven't yet set up a brackish water tank, i was just researching it for after taking him out of the qt. which won't be for a while. And I won't be putting him with the angels, he is alone right now.

So for food i should just put in some live fish or shrimp?

first of all, you need to get some kind of lid for that bucket, otherwise you're going to find it on the floor. eels are notorious escape artists and will find a way to escape.

eel - saltwater or brackish (1/2 freshwater 1/2 saltwater, not freshwater with regular salt in it). under no circumstances should you be keeping the eel with angels as angels are complete freshwater and need no salt, unless there is an ich problem that you are treating. salt should be dissolved in a small container orf tank water, and then slowly added to the tank. putting salt in a cup and keeping the cup in the tank is something i have only seen in stores, so they don't have to mix salt every day. why do you have a cup of salt with the angels? completely unnecessary, and potentialy harmful to them over the long term.

why don't you just take the eel to a store that has a saltwater section and the ability to care for it properly? eventually it will need a fully marine (saltwater) tank, probably sooner rather than later. are you going to be able to do that?

is he still in the bucket or is he in a tank? are you using marine salt? otherwise it doesn't count as brackish. is there even a filter? eels eat fish, so they need to be kept with larger semi-aggressives.

He is not in a bucket obviously, that was only used to transport him he was put into a qt as soon as i got home. I used aquarium salt because thats all i have at home but I'm looking into getting marine salt. Yes there is a filter and there are minnows in the tank for him to feast on. I am asking for help simply because i don't want him to die so i was just looking for some helpful suggestions but i'm not totally oblivious as to how to take care of an eel. I have been doing research and trying to learn as much as i can about them. Its not like I'm just throwing him in the tank and hoping he'll live but not really doing anything about it.

Why bother to use just aquarium salt when it is marine salt that you needed? Try to start researching marine aquariums, since that is what eventually you might as well convert it to.
