Hey all, before I go any farther with this post, I just want to pre-empt the Google suggestion... we have been checking the Web, lol.:thm:

Here's the deal: Hooked Newbie and I are leaving Thursday afternoon to drive from Louisville, KY to Hampton, VA. Neither of us have ever made this drive before. We're concerned about the weather, and about driving through the mountains, and were hoping that some of you all could tell us if it's a bad idea to try to take the I-64 route. Our other option seems to be to take I-75 to I-81 and at least be farther south when driving through the mountains; however, it seems like that would add more time onto our trip.

We would appreciate any advice if you have recently driven in or live around these areas. Thanks for reading! :)

It's supposed to warm up in VA tomorrow, I think you will have no problems driving down either route.

I am not really familiar with either route but I do know from my trips to visits kids in DC; watch your speed in VA! They LOVE to hand out speeding tickets!

I-64 is fine through WV to Hampton. My family is from close to Huntington, WV and I used to live in Newport News, VA. Piece of cake drive even in January....March, should be no problems at all.

Thanks for the heads-up, we'll be sure to slow it down. :)

2 words... radar detector.
Meh, too expensive. LOL ;)

Cool, that's exactly what we wanted to hear! I'm sure you know the drive pretty well then, LOL.

Guess that means I'll have to drive. Sev is a speed demon! :lipssealedsmilie:

That they do, and radar detectors are illegal in VA!!!

By the way there is an exit in Staunton, VA that has a gas station and a McD. If you have to go, go then cause it is quite a ways until the next road side service!!!
