I now have 6 10g tanks that I plan on using for inverts only. I would like to set up a central filtration system but have no idea where or how to start. Google has not turned up much. I know that central filtration is not ideal when dealing with fish, but since these are inverts only I think it may be the best idea for my needs. Please share any links you may have to DIY plumbing, etc. Thanks!

Hey msjinkzd

I am doing something quite similar. I'll be using a wet/dry.....check out sploke's thread. His project is VERY similar to mine only he's using huge, cool tanks and I'll be doing much smaller 10 to 30g tanks. For inverts, you could consider a central air system running sponge filters on all of them only too. Unfortunately, I don't have any sites to show you with central air systems but their essentially a big air pump with lots of lines out of them....purdy simple. I like the wet/dry solution because you can use less heaters, you only do one water change and you dont have a billion cords and filters to change.

Do you know what type of system you're looking at doing?

I may be able to scratch up some sites with wet/dry examples but I myself haven't found any comprehensive multi-tank systems yet. Splokes thread is pretty good....have you looked at it?

hahah hatch...i'm sure your tanks will be just as cool as mine.

i did a search here and sploke's thread didnt' even pop up...i will look at it, regardless I am enlisting his help through annoying pm's ;)
I don't really have any clue what I am doing, I need base research level....this base schematic versus that and equipment related to such.
I have an enormous space to convert into an eventual fish room, this is just the first step (to hook the husband, myahahah). He is a very handy man and will be crafting my stands out of metal and we will be doing custom lighting. It may be hard-plumbed, not certain yet. What I need to figure out is the basics...talk to me like I am in kindergarten so I can figure it out, all links appreciated. I have time to read. My searches have only come up with vague ramblings or pre-fab systems. Thanks in advance.

Thanks! I will be giving that and Sploke's thread a thorough read and then hopefully I can ask more pointed questions.

if you haven't found it yet, the link is in my sig.

duh, I have been reading that thread. What a head smacker...i was just so taken with the tanks and the progress you have made that I didnt' even apply it to my situation. I am conflicted as to what to do with these inverts. I think it would be "easiest" to just set up sponge filters on each of the tanks, I just didn't want to buy a ton of heaters, filters, etc. Think I am gonna go do some serious reading and come back with better, more thought out questions. Thanks sploke and hatch for giving me some good links to get started!

Well you said you have a pretty large area...if you are going to get the six 10gals and stay with that, I would go sponge filters just to keep it cheap and easy. If you think you'll end up expanding the system as you go, then a sump might be easier, and just leave a lot of openings on the lines for new additions when you do the plumbing.
