Need help!!! Fish with pop eye! My h

its a 50g tank. just noticed a male congo with the bulging eye :( I called another LFS and he said to just treat the whole tank as they will all get it. I also just did the tests...ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 10, PH 7. I did a 50% WC yesterday.

PLEASE someone advise me on what to do!!! Do I treat the whole tank and if so, with what? Aquarium salt? Copper? More Maracyn Two? I'm so worried to lose more fish :(

Substrate is pool filter sand...no live plants..just 2 fake ones.

I read somewhere to put in aquarium salt...but that can be detrimental to corys. There are 6 julii corys in the tank. Should I move them to another tank and put in the salt?

Also, I read that it can be from excess nitrogen saturation in the tank water that causes the gases to build up in the fish resulting in pop eye. If this is the case, would daily water changes and adding live plants help? He has only 2 fake plants, and I know live plants take in nitrogen.

Hi Kris
There's many causes of popeye, a lot of conflicting information, and no way for us to know for sure, so that's probably why few responses. No one wants to recommend a wrong medication, which would vary depending on the cause. If it was caused by nitrogen gas, as is sometimes the case with powerheads, you would notice the popeye disappearing when powerhead is shut off or the fish is moved to another container. If it's a bacterial infection I would try feeding them anti-bacterial pellets and/or using Maracyn 2. Good luck!
