need help on Xenia

I just perchased both of these corals today and the polyp seems to be doing fine because it has opened up but the xenia looks bad, atleast i think it does

the xenia shrunk into tight little thing and the bud is not opening. the size of it actually shrunk. is that a bad sign?
i have a 10 gallon and that is where it is right now on the mid level
for the lights i have a 28 watt power compact aqualight
lfs said it would be enough for a xenia
i also have a yellow fin damsel and a clown fish does that have to do anything?

i have a skilter and 295 gph power head

i am really worried about it and please help!!
 
I dont know how to help because I'm also new to this but I know the first question/s will be

What are your parameters and how long has the tank been running.
 
i used the bio sphere which instantly cycles your tank made by instant ocean
it contains nitrafying bacteria to instantly cycle the tank
 
What are the ammonia levels? Is there live rock in the tank? Live rock will have some die off initially and will need to cycle on its own. No matter how much you add the bacteria (stuff off the shelf doesn't work IMO, sorry), it may not be able to keep up with the initial die off. Xenia are very sensitive and prefer an established aquarium with very stable parameters and SG.
 
I really have a lot to say here, but dont want you to take offense.
First of all slow down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second You need to do a proper cycle before adding anything!!! Everything in your tank is not going to survive a cycle. The Ammonia and nitrites are going to kill everything. There is no way around this but to cycle your tank properly. You are off to a bad start. Do you have a test kit? Research before you buy not after, and listen to peoples advice. In another thread people told you that you light was not enought for these corals, however you still went and got them, and now they are going to die. Don't trus your fish store, research on your own first....remember they are a business and some will tell you whatever it takes to get you to buy something. You rock, snd and tank are not ready for living beings.you should have your tank setup and running for at least 6 months but preferably a year before adding corals. That stuff in a bottle on the shelf at the pet store is crap, it will not cycle your tank, and cycling a tank can takeup to 6 or more weeks.
 
it was in the fridge and the ammonia levels are like 0.1 or0.2 and also the nitrite levels are 0 and nitrate is 0 to 20 so i think the tank is cycled
people told me that the light was enough and i researched
so any answers to the xenia?
