That could explain why your pH was very low.

This seems to be pH crash. The hardness levels must be adjusted indeed. Sorry about your situation.

Add just a bit at a time and keep retesting. sudden and large PH swings can be bad for your fish - worse than a too high or too low PH.

I've added 2 teaspoon baking soda to my 300 gal tank. but ph tester still reads 4.5 which is the lowest it can go.
would it be a good idea to clean/change my filter media. since my tank is recycling anyway.

tested my ammonia and its at 2mg/l
made a 50 % water change agaion and dosed with ammolock.
what else can i do? i wasn't able to find a kh tester so i'm a little worried about dosing with baking soda.

update after my 50 % water change , cleaning my sump and changing some media plus adding corals.
was able to raise my ph past 4.5 luckily i tested my water first was going to add baking soda, but thought of testing first
the ph is now at 5.5 so didn't add the baking soda anymore

Here's an update.
When i woke up this morning my aro had cloudy eye again
I tested the ph and it was below 4.5 again
ammonia was at .5mg/l
what i did was i redose with ammolock. Also added 2 tbsp baking soda which brought up the ph to 5.5 , also dosed with melafix.

I also removed my huge driftwood.

here's my silver which is the most affected

and here's my other aro. no symptoms , hope he's ok.

Since i don't have KH tester and can't find one. how do i know when to redose with baking soda?
won't it be dangerous?
i've already added some crushed corals.

i've been able to correct the ph problem,
after about 2 weeks. my tank still has ammonia how long dfoes it take for bacteria to be able to handle the ammonia? I've tried to seed my filters with old media from other tanks.
