I have a 2.5G tank I'm trying to use to breed snails and am having trouble finding a filter that will work. The only small filters I've been able to find are all bubble driven, which is much too noisy. So I got a whisper 10i, the smallest internal power filter I could find, but it has way too much water flow. I need to find either a silent air pump to drive a small bubble filter or a smaller power filter.

I have a pretty noisy air pump that I use on my 1g snail grow out tank. I have the tank sitting on my dresser, so what I did to get rid of the noise is put the pump in my top drawer surrounded by *gasp* my undergarments. This eliminates any noise created by the pump. You may not have yours sitting on your dresser, but maybe you could put a towel around it or something similar to eliminate the noise.

I use a Red Sea nano filter on my 2.5 gallon. I have a piece of pantyhose around the intake so it wouldn’t suck up baby snails or shrimp. It works great, and is very quite.
