I have a 75 gallon tank with 2 bottom feeders and 8 african cichlids, I am going to be going on vacation for 2 weeks, does anyone know if I will be ok with out changing my water for that amount of time? also, which sould I use, Feeder gel, feeder Tabs, or automatic feeder; or are all of these just personal preference? Also how long can they go without eating??

Do a water change just before you leave, they will be fine for two weeks without one. Personally, I reccomend finding someone to come in after the first week to check on your fish and feed them. They can go a week without eating no probs, most likely would be fine for two weeks, but I wouldnt push that. The vacation feeders really reek havock on your water quality and can leave you with high paprameter spikes.

100% agree with blueiz, its what i would recommend..

Yeah, I am leaving for almost three weeks, and having someone come a couple of times each week to feed...

Will perform water changes when I return... I am sure everything will be fine for both of us...

The good news is, you have a large tank, that isn't very crowded, so you should be good to go.

If at any thing you do at least do the water change the morning of or the night before you leave.

Fish in the wild can go without food for a long time.

but having someone come feed could be disasterous as well. when i ent out of town my neighbor watched my tanks. when i got back one filter wasnt working, and she had over fed in the other two. Had to do about a 50% water change when i got back.

Put the fish food in separate containers for each day or what ever your feeding schedule is, just tell them to dump in that days worth of food..... works for me......:)

You could even make up a few jugs of prepared water for them to top the tank off with....

I've had neighbors kill a lot of my fish from overfeeding. Spend a few dollars on an auto feeder and you'll have peace of mind that your fish are being taken care of. I'm not too crazy about strangers in my house either.
