My Nitrite levels have been really high. It is at 10. I have had 2 fish die in this time period. What can I do to bring this level down. My tank is new. About 5 weeks old. Is the tank just finishing up it cycling process. I have done a couple of 25 % water changes.

Any help would be great.

water change at least 50% every day until your nitrites are below 0.50ppm. anything higher than that is toxic for your fish. then basically adjust your water change schedule to every other day or as often as you need to in order to keep it at or below 0.50ppm. once your nitrites and ammonia are at 0ppm and you are seeing nitrates you should be able to back off to a once a week water change.

It's not done cycling if the nitrItes are reading 10 ppm. If the tank was cycled with the fish in it the entire time, then most likely that's the cause--ammonia and nitrite toxicity can be lethal, but not always immediately.

More water changes--reduce the nitrites to less than .5 ppm. Back to back, 50% at a shot.
