OK I have had my 45 gal tank up and running for about 3 years now. I currently have 5 damsels, 1 clownfish and 2 hermit crabs in it. I also have about 40 pounds of liverock in it. I can get a little growth of coralline algae, but not the amounts to make the rock look good. Maybe this Saltwater fish stuff just ain't for me. I could really use some help from some of the more educated people that I see in this forum. Thanks for the replys and help.

I can add a picture if people need to see the tank.

Here are a couple pictures of my tank. They aren't the best pictures in the world but they give you a look at it. You can see that most of the rock in there is Brown and off-white in color. There is some alge growing on some of the rock, but I really thought there should be more.

Corralline algae won't really take off unless there's enough calcium and strontium (I think it's strontium--calcium alone can't be used without this additional additive. Might not be strontium...). Supplements are easily found to improve the growth rate.

Another thing--it's helpful to kick start the growth by disturbing it. Whack a few flakes off so they swirl around and settle elsewhere. We have a few hitch hiker urchins that travel around, chomping the algae off...It grows in quickly behind them. The tank without an active urchin has less growth, so presumably the urchin makes some difference.
