i have a 125g that has only one rts in it. and i would like to stock it with a lot of small fish as opposed to a few cichlids. i want some tiger barbs, cories, and maybe some zebra danios. does anyone have any ideas on what i could stock it with to keep it pretty diverse and active? i would also like to put a few DP's in there, and i do want it to be planted also. so if anyone can make any suggestions, i would appreciate it, thanks. oh yeah, i also want some common fish, it would be too hard to get rare ones, and money is tight right now. oh yeah, some gouramis would be cool too.

if you want to get tiger barbs and have other fish in the tank, its best to keep fast moving fish with shorter fins, and to keep the number of tiger abrbs above 18. they also stay around the same area as the corydoras, which would not be a good choice with them, and the rts. this raises another problem. red tailed balck sharks can get very aggressive and territorial with fish that swim around the lower reigons of the tank. fortunately, your tank should be big enough that aggression should not be that big of a problem.

zebra danios are really active and stay mostly around the top portions of the tank. for your size of tank, get 15 or so.

tiger barbs stay around the middle and bottom of the tank, and are also very active. they can be nippy with other fish as i had stated, but with your size of tank, you could easily fit in the number of tiger barbs that would allow you to keep other fish with them. with other fish, the minimum is 18, but since you ahve such a large tank, 24 will do nicely.

the red tailed black shark is all you should have for the bottom of the tank.

as for the dwarf puffers, they are likely to get picked on by the tiger barbs because they are so tiny. puffers are generally tough fish, but they are just to small to keep with tiger barbs and a red tailed black shark.

dont put gouramis with tiger barbs. their long fins are to much temptation for them and they will get nipped at. plus, any gourami that could be considered "compatible" with tiger barbs because they do not have very many long fins are far to aggressive and will kill anything that is smaller than they are.

my rts is very calm, he just stays to himself. and all the tiger barbs i have owned or seen swim at every level of the tank, not just the upper and middle region... thanks for the input.
