Need ideas on how to empty out a fish tank

i sponge towel and scoop out all the water. its easy and not so fun.

shop vac in "wet" mode! works great on water and gravel...

I just take the tank outside inthe grass and upend it to drain it all out, then let it dry and bring it back in.

Grass?! What exactly is this "grass" you speak of?

I carefully hose the tank out in the backyard (read.... decomposed granite), then shopvac the remaining water.

if you're just trying to empty it (not move it) i wouldn't worry about the last little bit of water. it's not going to hurt anything.
