I know Paratheraps can be difficult to identify, especially when the pictures are crappy, but does anyone want to take a shot at this fish? I got him 12 hours ago, so the colours definitely aren't developed yet. But the blue on the cheeks narrows it down quite a lot.

I'm leaning toward P. bifasciatus, FWIW.

I'm not 100% either. The over-all gold and the hint of red starting on the throat and possibly the cheeks has me leaning toward that.

Thank you both! The more I look at it the more it seems like Bifasciatus to me too. But I got it for free, and the previous owner thought it was a hybrid, and if that's what it is, I can't complain. A very pretty fish in any case.

Not bifasciatum.
bifasc. have a pronounced spotted pattern on the front half which this fish does not exhibit. Could be anything else though..
