Need info on angels...

I raise angels..
what i find is actually a bit on the opposite. the pairs protect the eggs fairly well.. i have 2 bonafide pairs in a 55.
here's the kicker..when the eggs hatch..the females will sneak over and steal wigglers..what I have found is the pairs don't care which brood they are from..they will try and keep/raise any fry that come close to them.

my pairs spawn about 1 week apart.
this weekend one pair spawned and I found a wiggler on her eggs....from the pair that spawned earlier in the week.

it's the sneaky pleco's you have to keep an eye on.

That's too cool about them "adopting" other fry! Neat observation - it can really pay to work with a species for a significant length of time.

IMO it depends upon the size. I started my 75 with 12 quarter (body size) angels, 6 half dollar size discus, and a few tetras. Now they are 6-2 1/2" dia. body angels and 2-5" discus. The discus paired off and ignored the others so I removed the others, and as the angels grew, I removed the ones that I didn't like the color, size, or finage. To date nobody picks on anyone. Once there is a firm pairing I will definitely move them to their on tanks.
I would start out with 8-12 small angels in a 55, let them grow, and see what happens.
