Okay I would like to set up a 40g reef but can't figure out the cost without LR, or livestock. So I would like ideas on lighting and skimmers and such, any help would be nice, I like zoas and want them to be the focus of the tank, and aneomes, I know most are hard to keep so that will probably wait. also I only want like a Black clown pair.

Thanks in advance.

Okay i'm a DIY so the stand and hood i'll make along with the sump, the tank will be easy to get from craigs list, I have variouse pupms(all eheim), Also not including LR or Livestock I might have a buget of 600$ and would like a tank in the 40 or 55 range. I'm clueless as to which lights to get, because I'm kinda confuse, i can get a dual metal halide system for 100$ bucks or so, but don't know about T5s or PC. I also like clams, lobster, shrimp, and other mobile Inverts.

If you're going to want clams and anemones you'll certainly want MHs or T5s with indvidual reflectors. Where are you seeing a dual MH system for $100? Unless it is used and from a reliable source I'd be highly suspicious of the quality of that.

It is from an awsome Store, they are the only place I trust for local Livestock. they have garage sales where they get rid of old stuff and these only had cosmetic damage to them, they even had them fired up so that you could see them work.

No because at the time I wasn't interested in a SW setup, it was when the 135g got bought... I wish I had gotem them though now when I think of it. they had four one with a semi-large dent, the others where just used alot in the store on show tanks. But none of the units sold so they still have them and they will probably be cheaper next time, and if they are 50 bucks I might buy two units.

Okay what If I decide to make my one system rather than pay the ****** 300% mark-up on anything retail??? There is no way a metal halid bulb costs more then 5 bucks in material... Or a light fixture for that matter probably cost 30 bucks to make in a factory.BTW can I run two MH on a 400W balast Kit that runs at 480 V? Also would 200w be good for a 40g reef, also I can get abunch of the 400W ballast but have to order like 30 so I might be selling them.

No not the bulbs, But I can get a reflector 250w ballast and mogul style socket for 63.79 and make it my self. Also is an Aqua C Urchin a good skimmer for my purposes. And then use two 18" fixtures that I already have, then I would make a 15g sump, and run the skimmer in it, along with a fuge area and a Emperor 400 for mech filtration.
