I have recieved a 40/50gal long aquarium. I made a post on the DIY forum about lighting it, and one person advised me to post the tank dimensions and the glass thickness to see if it's a real aquarium or a 'critter' cage. Here it is (inches):
Length: 48"
Height: 20"
Width: 12 3/4"
Glass: 1/4"

I think it is a real aquarium cuz for one thing it has an O' Dell (O'Dell written in gold inside a fish) sticker on it, and 2nd it has one of those stick on themometer things. What do ya'll think??? I'd rather know what it really is than take a risk and get my room flooded.:D :)

Thanks for the reply OrionGirl. Does anyone else know??? I'm pretty sure it's a real aquarium, but i still would like some other opinions just to make sure:)

Hello. I built a fish tank and the recommended thickness is 1/4" for tanks in the lower volumes. It is when you get into the bigger tanks that you really need to start thinking thicker.
I also just looked it up on the web, and it looks like this is a 55 gallon tank. O'dell is also the Perfecto company, and they do not make reptile tanks that are this length, from the look of their website. (The two places I just looked: www.perfectomfg.com

What are you going to put in it? This would be a great tank for planting.

I have also looked around and just now found out the measurements are for a 55gal tank. I was looking at a site that sells glass tanks and the measurements of my tank was shown as a 55gal tank with the same glass thickness. This is neat :D Thanks alot vtfish i appreciate the help:)
Actually yes i am going to atempt to plant it. I already have some egeria densa and aponotegen growing in my plant nursery tank which will be transported to the 55gal when i get the filters, gravel, lighting, and other stuff for it. Quick question, which is better to use flourite or laterite??? I think i am going to use flourite and Seachem's Flourish for the fertilizer. Only problem is this tank will be a coldwater tank where my 7in common goldfish and my 6in sarasa comet will be at home. They currently live in a 20gal high and i am going to move them once i get all the stuff. But despite my goldfish's vegetable cravings i will have this tank planted. Another con is that there isn't really a whole lot of coldwater plants so i'm gonna see what i can do about that. The tank will have 2 Aquaclear 200s filtering it and probably DIY CO2. I'm going to get more (small) fish for the setup which'll probably be like weather loaches or cories. I'll also have driftwood in it as well.
