need new laptop! suggestions?

Currently manage 250 HP workstations and notebooks with only 1 dead battery in a notebook. This is over the last 3 years. Before this job I managed 75 HP workstations in a gypsum plant. Open up the computer and 4" of gypsum dust inside and still running. Hard to replace a couple hard drive though but all hardware delivered on site next day. I have never had any major issues with HP.

Now Dell whole different story.

good to hear your co. has success with them via contract buying direct. but reading so many individual purchasers have poor experience (I presume all bought off the shelf & not direct)

so considering Lenova or Toshiba, the mac's are way too $$$, if santa cares to drop one off...

I think I will choose between lenova & toshiba direct. lenova T400 has 15% & toshiba L510 20%

so all u techie pros - can u assess the 2 below for me? I think the toshiba is slightly better in price & memory.

NOTE:
L510 $38 less
L510 more memory 4GB DDR2 vs 3GB DDR3
T400 faster processor P8600 vs &6600
L510 bigger HDD 250GB v 160GB (not important to me since I use an external drive also)

if all other things were equal, i would go with the L510 if you need to get one ASAP. the T400 may have a marginally faster processor, but unless you're running many applications at once or running complex video games, you wont notice any difference if you notice one at all. that said, you'll probably want to go into the store and try them out and make sure they feel solidly built; sometimes laptops that seem like bragains can feel a bit flimsy once you get them. if this is going to be an at-home-rarely-take-out computer, it wont be a problem, but if you're going to be taking this with you all the time that is a huge factor.

i would also check out battery life for both models, because the one with the longer battery life is probably what you are going to want.

i have a toshiba satellite (not the same model though) and it has served me very well. not many laptops survive multiple deployments to iraq but i have seen a few older toshibas out here. at the same time i cant really say that i know much about lenova products.

I loved my ole toshiba (r.i.p.!) but no great deals out there. but now today cyber monday - great deal on sony laptops! direct from MS store! they partnered up with all the big computer companies with their launch of windows7!

& you get a free zune! the retail for a zune lowest price is $219! for the laptop with bluray & duo core & windows7 premium is a screamer of a deal!
:duh:  :nilly:

p.s. thks for serving our country (tho I don't see the logic in going to battle for Iraq when al quaeda or our own inbred dissidents - but another issue another thread, not here) - so be safe - be on guard - be home soon!
