what do u mean you are giving them enough light but your tank lights are not on? on any good planted aquarium you should use your tank lights only and get your tank out of sunlight. theres no way to control how many watts ur plants are getting or for what period of time. i dont think they are getting enough light, and if they are i would suggest dosing with some ferts.
What kind of light is the tank getting, and what kind of lights do you have over the tank? In any case, turn on the tank lights for 9-12 hours a day. It's easy to get a timer, costs only a few bucks and you never have to worry about remembering the lights or not being home for a day or two.
ok they have lighting covered...are you dosing a carbon source? Anacharis will melt dosing excel....there are a lot of considerations to make. Before putting plants in a tank, you have to research and read up on what is required.
I have a 30 with flourite soil 1- 1.5" with 1" gravel on top..this has a 20 watt plant gro lite and gets filtered sunlight.
it had swords, crypts , water sprite, cabomba, and elodea densa(anacharis) all of which are growing like crazy there is some algae but it is very easily managed(albino bn's) .
so far it gets little to no ferts except natural waste from the angels and the bn's..
I have found that my anacharis in my 20 does turn brown , after it has shoots that grow off..in the 20 the anacharis is floating in the 30 it's planted.
I do pinch the new growth off and let it float till it develops roots after the roots form I plant it.
so far it's popagating..I remove any brown shoots that don't appear to be showng any signs of new growth.
How many gallons is your tank? Is it less than 10 gal? If not you do not have enough light to grow anacharis well enough. The sunlight is not going to do it. Since you are not dosing ferts or a Carbon source, you may be soon looking at an algae issue.
