Need some advise...

Let me give a little background before I get to my question. I have had my 55 gallon setup for over 6 months now. Yesterday I had to move the tank and basically started anew, new deco & sand, 100% waterchange. I was just using my return of my sump for waterflow, probably only 200gph. Today I threw in a maxijet 1200 for additional flow to help keep the gunk from building up like it did before. The tank only has had 6 fish, a group of Tropheus Kiriza that have been with me since the tank started, that was the initial purchase haven't lost any. I want to add more fish and I can't add anymore more Kiriza's since my local source is not reliable enough to provide a solid group of more than a couple... I was thinking about adding some rainbows or another breed of cichlids. Any suggestions are welcome so please provide assistance on my what I can do with this tank...

My first concern would be the stability of the tropheus colony unless all are female.

Apart from that, I am thinking maybe leilupi, julidochromis and shell dwellers are likely to be good choices...and indeed, rainbow fish will like the hard water and high Ph.

I have no doubt that jpappy, pitbull and afrocichlid amongst others will see this post and weigh in with great (and more specific) stocking options.
 
Hello sounds good so far but i would use caution on adding more Tropheus Kiriza your 6 sound like a solid group and may find new Tropheus Kiriza members to be unsuitable for their comfort and possibly deliver beatdowns..

The rainbows sound good maybe a 6some of preacox would be sweet and will add that buzzing fish effect..

Other Tangs would be ok as long as you pick the more robust and can handle some aggression specimens like Calvus, Lelupi, Buescheri..

Your group of Tropheus Kiriza should be the focal group of this tank and if other Tangs are added if you stick with the one fish from each species list your colonial differences would be minumal..

If this was my setup i would keep the Tropheus Kiriza as main contender a single Buescheri and a single Lelupi complement it with 5 to 6 preacox rainbowfish should make for a sweet setup.. buzzing with color and movement..
 
Your 2 choices of rainbows look great but they tend to be on the larger side have fun deciding and good luck my friend..
