I need help with setup for my 40 gal tank. The thing I'm most nervous about is maintenance. What chillers do you have? What filtration system are you using? Is the filtration something I can get from my local Petco? I have a bubbler (single stone for now), smooth hides, and an aquarium fan(also for now.) API level test kit, and prime. Just want the best possible setup for a new buddy!

When I kept axolotls, I didn't use a chiller, just kept the aquarium at room temperature in the low 70s (AC in the summer, obviously) or they went to live outside for the summer in a tub/patio pond as pest control (Northeast PA, zone 6b) - was a 110 gallon rubbermaid tub, above ground, water would be cooler at the bottom of the water so not too hot.
Filtration was a canister filter, aquarium had no substrate to avoid stuff being swallowed, a few smooth round rocks and epiphytic plants like Java fern and Bolbitis heudelotii to help a bit with water quality and a bit of cover..
No bubbler but really a personal choice, I try to avoid evaporation where I can, and wasn't really having problems with dissolved oxygen.
