I am setting up a 2 feet tank with both plant and shrimp.
I might inject CO2 in times to come.
There some question that I would like to ask here.

1. Which kind of filtration should I avoid?
2. How many watt of light should I get? I would like a medium light.
3. Is ADA soil a good choice for low pH tank?
4. Is pin thermometer accurate? from your experience..
5. Which plant nutrition would you recommend?
6. Do you dose anything during cycling?

^^

My answers are in bold and its how I do it....

1. Which kind of filtration should I avoid?

Any filtration will be fine as long as current is not too strong and you have a sponge or similar pre filter to keep young shrimp from getting sucked in. I prefer sponge filters in my tanks.

2. How many watt of light should I get? I would like a medium light.

I run low light and mostly moss or other very slow growing plants, up to you on this one.

3. Is ADA soil a good choice for low pH tank?

Yes here in AZ my water is 8.2 out the tap so I use ADA Aquasoil Amazonia II with R/O water and works to keep PH at 6.3 to 6.5 for my CRS, Tigers, etc. There is a long cycle time with Amazona II up to 4 weeks sometimes before ammonia and nitrites are 0

4. Is pin thermometer accurate? from your experience..

I just use cheapo tube style with suction cup....

5. Which plant nutrition would you recommend?

I don't dose...

6. Do you dose anything during cycling?

I cycle and mature my tanks before adding shrimp, average tank age is well over a month so not only bacteria is established, but bio film as well. I use media from another tank as well as tank water to speed things up

Cheers, Bill

^^^ What Bill said. He covered everything.

yup, what they said. I am not comfortable dosing my planted tanks with ferts, so i keep them around 2wpg. Others do it with no problems, i just have too much invested in my critter stock to risk it.
