My female krib has a white spot on her left fine. It's too big to be ick and this is the only spot. She has been fighting with the male but I have yet to see him fight back. I'm guessing it's from some type of injury, but could not identify it. It's not fuzzy but almost like it was always there, but I know that it wasn't. I don't want to treat the tank as it's a community tank and I don't want to seperate her from her fry.

Should I just leave her alone and up the water changes? I guess if it gets worse I can take the fry out and put them in their own tank. And treat the female. Man this sucks, I really wanted them to grow in the community tank but without the female I don't think they make it.

what does everyone think?? water tests are all fine and no new fish have been since I added the kribs. I just now noticed the white mark and could not be over a week old.

from the photo it looks as if its an injury i would wait to see if it is anything but if you feel like you need to do something i would only add aquarium salt at recommended doses and maybe some stress coat and keep an eye on it to make sure it isnt going to be a fungus situation i hope she is fine my friend..

thanks pittbull, I'll move the male out tomorrow just in case it was from him. I wanted to keep him in the tank as he still does help keep the other fish away from the fry. He's just not allowed to get too close to her. Now that the fry are a good bit bigger now I think I'll take him out tomorrow.

well if he is being aggressive towards her and the fry then yeah i would remove him but if he is cool i wouldnt just wait and see i guess..

he's being more than cool and actually stays as close as he can without being seen by her. I kinda feel bad but any fish would fight back if cornered and I can see her cornering him, maybe that explains the mark? I'd like to leave him but the fry are just going to get bigger and bigger so I might as well do it now. thx for the advice, hopefully her white dot thing doesn't get worse.

cool deal my friend just keep an eye on that fin aye and hopefully all will work out..

Hi friends!
I totally agree with pittbull; it looks like an injury. Maybe male and female fought just once and she got injured. Don't get freak, just wait and see. I really think she is going to be fine.
Good luck!!!

It is most likely a scrape or something. My large CA/SA Cichlids get these marks on their fins all the time. A simple chase around the tank and rubbing against something will do it. I just go about my business and keep up on maintnance and it heals in no time.

Motherhood places quite a bit of stress on all life forms. Just ask your Mom. She may have sustained a minor injury tending her young. Just leave all alone and watch for a few days. If she gets worse take actionby moving her to a qt tank and treating her there. Leave the fry alone. Remove Dad if you remove the Mom. Most likely she will heal without any intervention from your helping hands. Fish have a remarkable ability to heal if their environment is good.

thanks efors and i do agree with charlie, most hobbyist tend to medicate on a wim over and over again just to make a concoction of med soup which is by far worse case scenario, alot of times a hobbyist just needs to perform water changes add some aquarium salt at recommended doses and let the fish do the healing process on their own..
