need some major help!

I'm gettin a 29 Gal tank and I need to build a stand for it; nothing fancy, just to hold the tank and a shelf underneath for storage. I have NO experience with building and I could really use some help.

P.S. if it would be cheaper to just buy a simple metal stand let me know

Can you get ahold of a few cinderblocks? A few cinder blocks, a couple 2X4's, and a sheet will do. Stack the cinderblocks to the height you want (probably 2 or 3 high, so you'll need 4 or 6), set the 2X4's across the cinderblocks where the tank will sit. You want the 2X4's to support the bottom of the tank, but only need the outer frame supported (it is a glass tank right?). So if you laid the 2X4's flat and cut them to the same size as the bottom (rim) of your tank, you should be all set. Try to have the cinderblocks support as much of the 2X4s as possible. Once it's set up, pin or tack a sheet to the front of the 2X4s to cover the blocks.

Thats a good quick cheap tank stand, but, If i may add a few suggestions:

1) If the tank is framed then supporting the edges will be fine. (they have thincker glass on the bottom than the sides.) A non framed tank may not have thicker glass on the bottom and should be set on a piece of plywood suppored by the 2x4's with a piece of foam to smooth out any possible uneven points on the plywood (it can cause cracks)

2) make sure your tank stand is perfectly level. Shave or sand the 2x4's untill it is level or use shims to adjust it.

I like your idea beviking; simple and easy! If I spaced the cynder blocks so that the edges were aligned with the edges of the tank, couldn't I set a piece of plywood in between the cynder blocks to use as a shelf?
