Need some tankmates

Hi all,
I'm looking for 2 or 3 new tankmates for the setup I have. The community is listed in my signature. I just moved, and want to wait a couple weeks before getting them, but I wanted to take some time to consider the options. Other things to consider is that I have really hard water (180 Carbonate and 240 General), but the other factors seem to be good (neutral pH). The Asian is a bit of a thug, but the other guys seem to hold their own against him (or her?), but I'd need something that can do the same. I'm looking for something that looks cool, is somewhat active, and will swim mid- to top-tank.

PS - I also plan on getting a buddy for the little upside-down guy, too.
 
Those eupterus will easily outgrow your tank (provided good conditions prevent stunting) and are more than enough bioload for a 29g. When they're listed as reaching a max. of 6", that does not include the tail. I've seen gravid females that were probably close to 1 pound.

That said, 2-3 giant danios would fit the bill, but you should really consider removing some/most of the catfish. Rainbowfish are an option, but few will recommend them for smaller tanks because of their active nature and how they prefer larger groups.
 
hmm

yeah, the rainbow shark, eupterus, and one of the upside down cats--not sure which, will all probably outgrow that tank. The rainbow will only get to around 6 inchs, but is a very active swimmer. I believe the asian upside down cat gets like 10 inches, but not certain of that.
 
I've had most of them for 2+ years now, and they don't appear to be growing anymore (though it's hard to say). First 6 months, yes, but after that, nothing. I would eventually like to upgrade to a bigger tank, but for now the 29g stays. I still would like a couple of non-cats to put in there, tho.

well, if you have had them for 2 years and they are all still those sizes....then I am going to have to say they are all stunted, except for maybe the upside downs.

Irregardless of the others, the eupterus is WAY to large for that tank. Plus, I would say you have probably maxed the bioload for that tank already.
 
i don't know many aquarium fish that won't get close to their adult size in two years. All of yours are very stunted if they're that old. If that's the case, you absolutely should not be adding fish. Instead, you should be addressing why your 6" fish have maxed out at 2" or less. Change more water, have fewer fish. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
