Need some advice on how to cycle my 55-gallon goldfish tank. First question is.... does it matter how I cycle whether it is for goldfish or tropicals? Can I get a step by step on the cycling process. I want to raise a very healthy fish and do not want to jepardize it by starting off doing something stupid. I'll be using a canister filter with various media. Do I need a HOB for the cycling process. Also, I will not be using any live plants for this tank. I do plan in the future to set up another 55 with tropicals and live plants so I'm sure I'll be asking a whole new series of questions. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Outstanding article. I highly recommend it to anyone who browses this thread. Thanks so much for the reply. :thm:

As I mentioned in another thread, this link leads to an article on another forum, which requires registering. There used to be an article here on AC on cycling a tank--can someone with experience (on this board) write an article that we could link newbies to? Linking to another forum seems a little silly with so many knowledgeable people here!

As said in reply to your other post there are valid reasons that I linked it to the other site, I am also working on making it publicly accessable to everyone whether or not they register (Which by the way is quick easy and free)
And additionally the article has not been removed from The article forum here.

Anyone who wants to write a second cycling article for this site is more than welcome to do so.
Anyone who wants to use the search feature here or go to the articles section and read the articles can also do so. I will not pull the article off of this site unless for some odd reason Michael asks me to. It will always be here, But the more user friendly version will be at the link, and in the meantime I plan to link it over there so when the new version goes up (Probably today or tomorrow) I don't have to change my existing posts.
