Need to buy a new filter ASAP!!!!!!!!!!

That's wierd. I have never had a problem with my fluval 405. Honestly, I would recomend another fluval... but apparently you haven't had as good of luck with them. From what I've heard, (I was researching the fluval and the marineland cans when I set up my tank) the marineland filters are 'self priming', but sometimes it doesn't work, and then you have to pour water down the hose and it is a big pain in the..... oh, and if you have an acrylic tank, odds are that the boiwheels in the return won't fit. If you don't want another fluval, I would go with a rena or ehiem. I've never heard anything bad about either, except that if you neglet maintenance, a seal might eventually leak(like with anything) or if you let the water get too low, it might shoot it out of the tank(like any canister).

I been using 3 Fluval FX5 canisters and havent had any problems they seem to be well made and sure filter alot of water.

Honestly, I feel like you must have gotten that one defective fluval. I've talked to a few people, and nobody knows anybody that has had problems with them, besides I/O errors, like my own forgetting to install the o-ring.

It's funny you say that, because I've heard loads of complaints about Fluvals from people. The worst thing about my filter is that I cannot get it going, no matter how hard I try. I even went so far as to try sucking on the return pipe to get things going, but it was all in vain. Wow, that sounds dirtier than I intended! OOOH BABY!

How far below your water level do you keep your can?

All the way down. The hoses end up pretty much straight if that's what you're asking ;)

Besides that, I would like to mention that yesterday I ordered a Rena XP4 from kensfish.com and it has already arrived via UPS Ground. It only took 24 hours!
