NEED TO KNOW

No way I could do just cold water changes, or maybe anyone on a well I'm guessing. My water comes out of the tap @ 55 degrees.

I am on a well and I do cold water changes, straight from the sink it comes out somehwere in the upper 60's. Been doing it like this for years and hasn't caused a problem. Of course I should say this shouldn't be done with some of the heat loving fish like discus.

The problem with using temperature matched water straight from the sink is not an issue in most of North America. In many places in the world, other setups are used to heat water including using a water heating and storage system that is not fiberglass lined. That means that people with that kind of system risk introducing copper and other metals into their tank water if they simply mix water from the faucet. For those people it is important to use only cold tap water and then heat the water after it is drawn, by whatever method they choose. That could be as simple as a spare aquarium heater being pressed into service, or even boiling some water in a kettle to add to bring the bucket of new water up to temperature. The fish needs the world over are the same but the plumbing we use is not.

Straight from mixing at tap to the tanks....
