My Zebra Danios like to swim all over the place, but usually top half. But you said no schools, so I dunno. Maybe a couple of fancy guppies? (Males only)

well I said no schools because from my experience supposedly upper level schooling fish have never actually staid upper level. but I haven't tried danios or guppies
