need your opinion

i have a 29g community tank with a penguin 170. i was wondering if it was worth getting a emperor 280 for better filteration. the reason im thinking of getting a bigger filter is because it seems that my fish only live about 8 weeks or so. will the emperor help out?

It depends. If your fish are dying, there is obviously something wrong--either the tank isn't cycling, or there is something toxic in the tank. Let us know a bit more history--what has died, what maintenance do you do, how often, water parameters, etc. A bigger filter only can do so much.

just platys. i clean the tank every 3 weeks. the ph and everything is fine. will the 280 filter better, and keep the tank cleaner?

Its not the filter. Something else isn't right.

Has it cycled fully? Tank specs and a little history really do go a long way…
