I have a 60 gallon acrylic tank with a blue background and was wondering what substrate color would look good with it. i have a smaller 20 gallon tank that has a black background and black gravel which looks great but would a blue background and blue rocks look just as good? or should i just go out and get some more black substrate and put it with the blue background.

I'm not a big fan of blue gravel, but that may just be me. Personally I'd go with something more natural, and light colored. Maybe beige or white gravel, or sand. Most important is to use something that you will enjoy.

I've got black Tahitian Moon Sand in my tank, and it lends a sophisticated look. I think it'd look nice with a blue background. Actually, I was planning to put up some type of gradient blue background on my tank

Light blue or deep blue? You may want to try the river-rock type gravel, which has a mix of colors ranging from cream to dark brown/black. This would also be nice. The river-rock gravel also comes in different sizes/grades, from coarse sand to half-inch pebbles.

White sand and dark blue background looks good to me, and the fish say they like it to......:)

For the white sand, I'd recommend pool filter sand. Definitely rinse it well first. It won't take nearly as long to rinse pool filter sand as it would to do play sand, but still a worthwhile effort since you'll reduce cloudiness in your tank significantly by rinsing ahead of time. Also will save your filter from getting clogged up.

Good luck - post pics! :)

White sand shows poop better, just thought I'd mention ;)

I'm gonna be busy today and tomorrow so I'll have to to pick up the pool filter sand on monday. Where should I buy it at? Does Home Depot have it?
