Hi, some of you may have seen me from the Newbie forum. Well I'm leaning strongly towards a planted aquarium after viewing some beatiful examples. I was looking for a little help on ideas.
I'm getting a 55 gal glass tank with cabinet stand and biowheel filter for $50... anyway, I would like to create an open-top planted aquarium with fish.
It will be in a room with 4 large, full length windows (will be across the room from windows), so it should get indirect sun. The room will be kept in the mid 70's year round. My water is well water and hard. I'm not planning to use a filter, I would like my plants to be the filter. I will not be using CO2 either.
I really need help on deciding the right lighting and plants!
Whatever lighting I get, I don't want it on the top of the tank, because I would like to have plants that grow out of the water. But, the ceiling above the tank is 15 ft high and it is supported by steelframe, not wood, so it can't take additional weight, without being braced and I can't get up there to it. Anyway, I will need either a clip on or a standing lamp. Do they make any lighting that would work for me?
I know this is totally vague, but I don't have the aquarium yet, because I don't have the room to put it in yet, but I will soon. I'm getting everything planned out first.
