I didn't do my homework! We went to the LFS to purchase a fish to replace our royal gramma and fell in love with a tank raised neon dotyback. She went into a 46 gallon with a flame angel (he has been with us almost since the beginning--nine months) and a red spotted sandhopper (blennie) and 2 green chromis. The green chromis disappeared one by one. The blennie was missing for 2 weeks until one day we saw him dash through the rockwork with the dotyback in hot pursuit. He definitely had lost weight. We were successful in catching him and he now resides in a 75 gal with a yellow tang, a tibeken angel and a pair of tomatoe clowns. A very happy tank. Now for my question. What fish could we add to the 46 that would be able to hold its own with the flame angel and the dotyback, and be reef safe. Does such a critter exist? No more impulse buying for us!

It is interesting that the Chromis went missing as Neons will generally only go after Goby-Blenny looking things (things that resmemble them). I would think maybe a Cardinal of some sort would work that is about the only thing I can think of other than damsels or clowns. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck with your little terror!
