I stopped by at Wal-mart today and saw this fish that I wanted to know more about and the only thing label I see was "Neon Gourami Fancy". I looked it up... and didn't find what I wanted. I think it might have been mislabeled?
Do you have any idea what this fish might be actually called? I'm not too good at describing fish :-(
Any ideas would be appreciated!

Must be a dwarf gourami...they have colors on them that is neonish and there mixed around like fancy guppies? haha

Sorry cant help much theres lots of gouramis types

Ahh! You want me to describe the fish!? It doesn't have the body shape of most gouramis. It looks like umm streamlined? (thin body) shaped almost like ummm... a zebra danio would be shaped. it has kinda of yellowish color it it (sorta of tint) fins looks like a 'fan' shaped not the usual 'v' shaped in zebra danios. Oh one more thing its mouth looks almost like right in front of its face is not turned upward or anything like that. I hope I've described it alright. I barely can think of how to describe it last night.
I don't mind buying that fish as long it won't outgrow my 10g or 30g. Thats why I'm asking!

hi jin,
as u describe above, they are common fish found in INDIA in lakes, pounds, canales and all rivers. IN INDIA we call it as wild fish.
The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami is a color-morph of the Dwarf Gourami. Other than the more intense blue coloration, the Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami is the same as the Dwarf Gourami. They are a beautiful fish that stay fairly small, about 2 inches.
They are a good community fish though they can be a little timid. The Dwarf Gourami are very desireable for a smaller aquariam but they do like lots of plant cover and plenty of places to hide.

Some of it descriptions:-
Colisa lalia

Class: Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes)

Importance: aquarium: commercial
Resilience: Medium, minimum population doubling time 1.4 - 4.4 years (Fec=600 eggs )

Gazetteer Asia: Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. This is the smallest and most popular of the small gouramis which have been widely distributed outside of its native range .
Biology: Inhabits slow moving streams, rivulets and lakes with plenty of vegetation Aquarium keeping: minimum aquarium size 60 cm.

that what i got from INDIAN Fish Database.

Thanks for your help... unfortantely I suppose I am not very good at describing the fish! Those fishes sure doesn't look like like the fish I saw. It wasn't as colorful as all of those fishes. Well, I might just borrow a digital camera and take picture of that fish at Walmart! :D
I could do that tomorrow and hopefully it will help.

::EDIT:: Ah when I said streamlined.. uh the fish body would be shaped sorta like a pencil? doesn't have much of bulge or anything just almost sort of cyclindar (sp?) shaped body. See... I can't even describe a fish! :soda:

There were some people giving me weird looks for taking pictures of the fish :dance2: yeah... i'm a fish geek. Can't I satisfy my curiousity? He he, I hope that the picture will help.
I also saw a similar fish at different fish but it wasn't for sale and different colored. Um?
