We seem to be having a problem in mostly our guppies with something that looks very close to NTD, but I doubt it is because my neons aren't getting it.... More than half our guppies got this disease and died within a week after in nearly perfect water conditions (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, pH 7.8, gH 8-10...so on).
Now it's affecting my male and female lyre tail killie along with a female guppy... I am treating with Kanacyn which seems to be helping... at least slowing down the spread of the disease on their bodies, I cross my fingers that it will work.

One of the owners of the LFS is having the same problem with all her guppies...

Any idea what is going on?
 
Well it could just be that the place you are going to get these guys is a bad place and has diseased fish...

...I would check to see if she gets her fish at this same store, if so maybe you should get the fish elsewhere. :confused:

We get them from the same place, her dad owns the store, so...

I lost the female guppy... the NTD like stuff was going away then she came down with dropsy... so I euthenized her to prevent her suffering.

I did a 30% waterchange this morning and treated the tank with one capsule... I came home this afternoon after school and added another capsule and will do another water change tomorrow.. I hope the killies get better by then

Any other ideas of what I can do?
 
I've read that NTD is transferrable to other fish, including other tetras, danios and barbs.

The parasites that cause the infection are passed directly from fish to fish, (although apparently spores are able to live for a short while away from fish). So quaranite is important in preventing the spread, because it generally isnt water-borne.

Furazolidone and toltrazuril have been known to work very well, but apparently not many treatments are very effective.

Healthy fish may carry the infection without symptoms. And fish that recover may still harbour the parasite.

How do you euthenize a fish?
