Neon tetra doesn't swim?

Since I'm waiting for the whole ick process to complete, I decided to just think about what I did ever since I got my first fish:Neon tetras.
I recall that whenever I added 4 or 3 neons, at least 1 swims abnormally that night. It's like he doesn't swim, just floating around in the tank (not at the surface). He still breathes, just can't swim... then he sticks onto the filter. It ALWAYS happens to my tetras every time I add a few more. then the population dies off somehow. Either they're on the gravel or stuck on the filter the next day. Does anyone know what happened to them?

I bet it's my LFS...

If it was happening 2-3 days after adding the fish I would say that it is due to a minicycle as the biofilter adjusts to the new load. Not sure why it happens on the first night and why it only affects one fish. Do you check your parameters or do a cleaning before you add the fsh. Any fish that could be picking on one of the new fish?

If you looked at my post in the link, last post, yes the neons nip at each other.

It looks to me that your question was answered 2 hrs after you posted it...even though in a saltwater forum. Neons are notoriously fragile on being moved around. And your tank is not stable, what with the cycling, ick and trying to use chemicals to adjust pH.
