I have 3 neon tetras and 2 glofish in a 5 gallon tank. The water is fine (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and <15ppm nitrate), but the temperature has been fluctuating by about 5 degrees (I posted about this earlier). I just got a new heater, so that should take care of the temp.

Anyway, I just noticed that the tetras have some small white spots on their fins. They look like flecks of food or something, but I can't really tell. Should I worry about that?

Could be ich, could be fungus. Ich looks like little grains of salt on the surface of the fin or skin. Fungus looks more fuzzy and can be in larger spots.

definately ick. Try to get a hold of some Ich Treatment (aquari-sol(my favorite) or QuICK cure.

Sounds like Ich as stated. Search the forums, there are quite a few threads with very good advice on treatment.

If it gets larger and starts to look like (excuse the metaphor) batter, it might be NTD, just keep an eye on those spots to make sure they don't get larger.

Well I started treatment with Ich Attack, as it was the only medication my LFS had that wouldn't harm the tetras. One of the tetras died :(, but the other two are starting to look better. I guess I'll get a new tetra once the treatment is finished.

you shouldnt have went with the medication.. should have tried the

increase temp to 82-84(slowly) and keep it that way for a week/increase aeration/add aquarium salts/leave the light off during this treatment

worked for me

the tetras are sensitive to many of the ich meds to you have to be careful

there is absolutely nothing wrong with using medications designed to erradicate ich.

many are safe with tetras art half dose or as recommended..some ich has been resistant to salt treatments.
