In my shrimp tank, I want about 5 bumblebee nerite snails (bumblebee horn snails, horn nerite snail, etc). Here's a pic, for those not familiar and because I'm not sure if it's really a nerite?

I've been thinking, I doubt the shrimp will eat their eggs. As you can see, they are a very attractive snail. Could I just use a container of brackish water to hatch them, then after they hatch acclimate them to FW? I don't want the clutches to foul or go to waste, and a friend of mine who has a FS a few hours away gives me great exchange deals, and orders things in for me when I head up that way.

What does everyone think?

Breeding Nerites are nowhere as easy as more common snails like Apples and Ramshorns.

Most species seem to lay eggs (not in clutches) that are hard to remove from whatever they're attached onto, and when they hatch, they go through several planktonic stages before actually becoming snails.

I've had someone had Clithion corona breed in a tangynikian tank.. must be really hard water

nerites

Hello, Yes, I will be glad to post! My tanks are 1 1/2 years, 5, 7, and 1 month old. I have had my share of tank "oopses". This is such a great hobby.
Nerite snails are such good algae-eaters, and I'd gladly make a little brackish tank in which to breed them. I've read lot of online things about this, can it really be done??
Today I had an oops moment, in fact: I had grown a big waterlily plant, and thought that it might be like removing outside-garden bulbs to take it out. So I just pulled on the plant, and the thing had developed an enormous net of roots! The entire tank almost fell apart. Now it's like mud soup in there! purplegirl

i have tried adding nerite snails to true marine water, and while it didnt kill them, they were none too pleased. In a day and ahalfa never saw one open up and move around. so back in the fw tank they went and area happy again.

well acclimating them i would drip acclimate them to a brackish tank vary vary slowly like say do it in a 24 hour time slot. other wise i feer your just going to shock them to much with the sudden change from fw to sw.
