My Nerite snail will only open his door half way and never come out all the way. Doesn't eat or move around at all.. What could be the problem?

I moved the snail to my shrimp tank over a week again and still the same thing, the other 2 snails are active.
I even tried siting the snail on top of a algae wafer for a day, still will not come out. I placed it on it side, still same position a week later...

The snail is still alive.

Did anyone read what was said in the first post?

I read it! Does the sniff test work with nerites? If it stinks it's dead if not it's alive???? When I got my nerite it didn't move for a day or two.

:help: He will close his door if I touch it, then open only half way again later.

That is not common. I have had a few go "dormant" for awhile, but its not typical of them. I don't know what to suggest other than putting it in a breeder trap with some cultured algae to see if its feeding.

What do snails normally do when they go dormant?
From the 29 gallon it was in to the 10 gallon it is in now.
It's been doing this for about 3 weeks..

Could these readings below be the cause of this snail issue?
In the 29 gallon tank with doing EI Dosing..

pH - 6.5
kH - 3
GH - 6
Ammonia - 0.5
Nitrate - 20
Nitrite - 0
Phosphorus - 3.0

I changed my dosing after this and got:

Phosphorus - 8.0 to 9.0
Nitrate - 3.0
Ammonia - 0

These are not my reading anymore, this is what they where at a couple weeks ago when messing with different dosing schedules

If they snail went dormant, could this have cause the unusually long time of being dormant? Almost like the snail got brain damage?

A couple of mine were doing the same thing. Complete snorers. I changed the water, replacing 50% fresh, and everybody seemed invigorated - snails and shrimp. I also added a pinch of salt to replace minerals.

I did a 40% water change on the shrimp tank they are in now, still no change..

How long did your snails act this way?
