UV's are really nice. Definitely not required for FW, but really nice. They take care of green water forever, and you don't have to worry about free floating pathogens like Ich.
Right now is a great time to get a UV. You can get a used Coralife Turbo Twist 3x for like $70 shipped on ebay or, if you're like me, even better with a $40/shipped with a new bulb.
Again, it doesn't correct the imbalance, but you don't have to stare at a green monster.
