Never letting duckweed grow in a tank again...

you people are crazy...I cant grow enough duckweed..its in every tank with out surface movement..helps pull stuff out of the water and my large fancy gold fish can eat more duckweed than can cover a 20l in a single day...she loves her duckweed and guppy grass!

I grow it in large tubs out side in the summer and freeze it in cubes so I have extras...in the same tubs i grow and freeze live food out of for the rest of my fish.

What about frogbit? Is that an aggressive plant? Would it take over a small guppy tank?
Most floaters are "weedy" since they have ample access to what plants need. But in most cases it's also easy to control their spread.

Frogbit produces tons and tons of roots hanging down. I had some in tanks outside, and the roots were 20+ inches long. Fine outside, but I don't think I'd like it in a tank where I can see the masses of roots.

Salvinia is similar to duckweed, but larger, and easier to remove. It will outcompete duckweed, as well.

Duckweed has it's uses. I'm happy to have it grow in tanks with crayfish, since it soaks up nutrients, and provides them a snack when they can catch it.
