Really? My red ramshorns don't make much of a mess. *shrug* It was merely a suggestion, anyways if he wanted help removing the algae from his live plants. Can't exactly scrape those.

they eat LOTS lol
Veggies, wafers of every kind, shrimp pellets, flakes, whatever my fish eat... so I guess thats kinda my fault they crapped alot
but if they were living off nothing but algae(and the ocasional betta pellet/flakes ) they probably won't be a problem

Mine get whatever the fish haven't and any algae that's growing. I drop blanched veggies in every now and then and feed them their snail cookies and such, but I don't pamper them. I'm actually overrun with snails because I bought more than one mature adult originally and I've taken to squishing any babies I find and leaving them as food for my cories. I know... how evil of me.

Pond snails are hermaphroditic, one turns to billions in about a week. Not that I'd be concerned as both my Bettas are snail munchers. Also I've never had much luck using snails for algae control (or any other livestock for that matter). Haven't tried Nerite snails yet though, which are supposed to be the best algae eating snails.
The only pain with scraping algae in this bowl is the shape. I'm looking for a small, flexible sponge-type thing to wedge into the corners where it is pretty tight. I've been wrapping paper towel around a pair of 10" tweezers so far, but that's a pain. Might try using those super-long medical q-tips you get in tall jars if I can find 'em.

bettagurl, did you ever think that the reason the Bettas you put in your pond are so active is that they constantly have to search for food (like in the wild)? Not saying it's a bad thing, just that it may be more of a survival thing than a happy-happy swimmy thing. Not a problem for Bettas kept in small quarters where they can see the food coming, and is pretty much dropped in their mouths. I've read that one of the reasons Bettas "puddle-jump" is to find food. Yet another reason is to spawn.
