There are alot of choices for you with a 10 gallon. In my 10 gallon which is heavily planted, I have 1 male Betta, 2 Female Bettas, 4 Harlequin rasboras and 4 Corys. Most would consider that overstocked, but with dense plants in the tank it is not an issue for me.
You could do Shellies as someone suggested. For community fish I would reccomend, Cardinal Tetras, Neon Tetras, Cories, Harluquin Rasboras and probobly some others im issing. Just dont get fish that require a lot of swimming room, and try to limit yourself to 2 or 3 species. If you do go the community route I would reccomend cories for almost any situtation. Oh and 2 or 3 ottos and some shrimp will always be a plus as well.
