So a freind of mine has a 10 gallon that I have talked her into giving me. She has a few other pets at current, and is trying to rid herself of the responsibility of thier care, as she has gotten a job which involves much travel. The current stock is a common pleco about 8", 2 kissing guaramies, a pictus cat, and some sort of ugly little fat goldfish(fantail mabey?). You can see why I have been trying to talk to her about the tank. Needless to say, I will be returning all the fish to the lfs. While I am excited(yay new tank and fishy rescue), I have no clue what to do about stocking it :help: I have a 10 at current with some 5 danios, 3 guppies, a cae, and a mystus carcio cat. I would like to do something different, but am at a loss for ideas. I like stranger types of fish but I can't think of much that will go into that small a tank, other than the common little things which I don't want more of. Any good ideas?

Oddballs.. Well, the fish I know of that will go in there are:

Betta (1)
Dwarf Puffer (1-3?)
Blue Rams (Pair)
Shellies (ask moo about these guys)

how about tiger barbs? they are kinda common fish but are still neat...i'm getting some once i switch my 55gal. over to community(which will be awhile).scrimp are neat. snails. you could get an upside down catfish...are very wmall and interesting but are nocturnal...i will probably think of others but am at a loss right now

Depending on your definition of different, some small loaches like dwarf chain loaches can be cool. If you are willing to do a bit of barackish and feed brine shrimp then there may be a small pipefish that you could have!

10g would be too small for tiger barbs... Not really oddballs though either. Do butterfly fish get too big for a 10g? Cool fish, but I don't know much about them

just checked, never mind recommended 30g minimum :o

gourami, that's the kind of thinking I'm going with! I do appraciate the other responses as well, the pair of rams, and the usd cat are defiantly worth considering. I forgot to mention my tap ph is a bit high, usually arround 8 if that helps any with the suguestions.

I wish I could have the ABF :( . I recently got one for my soon to be setup 55 gal and was going to make it live in the 10 for a week or so. Then I found out I have to move next month, so project is on hold and ABF has a new home. They are great oddballs, I might get him back/another one for the 55.

Look into chocolate gouramis. A little more sensitive that regular gouramis but cool and do well in groups. There is a nice bit of info in the species info on this site.
