New 100 gallon from CL

Forgot:

I know how to polish scratches out of the outside of the tank, but is there a safe way to take care of the inside ones without draining the tank? This tank has taken some good abuse.

Everybody's being pretty active now actually. I'm seeing a few little fights too. Doesn't look serious though, two equal sized individuals face off with their mouths wide open and wrestle a bit until one backs off. Larger ones chase the smaller ones a bit too. I need to get more rocks, and sell a few fish.

Your myster cichlid looks like a Malawi type (rift lake) Mbuna...but he's looks a lil chubby - what have you been feeding him ?

If you are going to keep him/similar fish you would stock him with similar types from Lake Malawi and nothing but (well perhaps some bottom dwellers - synodontis catfish work out nicely and Bristlenose Plecs can be successful too). You don't put in anything but rift lake species with the rift lakes generally.

If you're doing a tang tank either rehome him, or just let him be and see how it does - might be ok.

You don't put in dithers/target fish in a rift lake tank - just more cichlids really. You could have a look at neolamprologus leilupi, Calvus, even consider a trio of Frontosa in that tank.

My personal suggestion would be a tropheus colony however - heaps of activiy and colour in there.

Your hardness plus PH is a bit odd - what is your Ph from tap ? How are you testing it (strips or liquid drop) ? You wouldn't want to keep Tangs in much less than 8.2 Ph. Malawis do ok at the mid 7's plus. So if your Ph is actually 6.8 you wouldn't want to keep either but would look at CA/SA species.

P.s. what are you feeding the mystery cichlid ? Looks a lil bloated.

Home from work, everybody seems happy, tested again, pH still 6.8. Did a 10% wc, looks like it went up a tad. My tap is in the high 7s and very hard.

Yeah, that's the fish blue2fyre. Thanks. Yeah, it is fat, that's how I got it. He's been feeding them cichlid flakes, and some kind of pinkish pellets. Algae wafers for the Plecos (and plenty of algae in the tank).

I've only had them two days, so they're still settling in. I'll be on my way to a fish store pretty soon though to trade in some of the Julies and the monster pleco.

Back from the petstore. He offered me 75cents each for the Julies over the phone, not as much as I hoped. I like the guy though so I was gonna just give him a couple anyways but they all hid in the rocks and I decided it wasn't worth it to take them all out for a couple bucks. He took the plecos though and gave me a can of food, it's 9$, so I guess I'm ok with that. Offered me 1.50$ each if I want to bring in some of the Julies, I may do that in the future if CL fails. I also got a few more rocks and some java moss. There doesn't seem to be enough hidey holes for all of them, but it's a bit closer now. Also got some of them little worms, and some mini nightcrawlers, they weren't really interested in either.

I'm back from Mexico, we built two houses, and I learned that I'm allergic to mexican bees (my hand looks like an inflated doctors glove).

That's a cool pic BoCoMo, almost makes me want to do a Tropheus tank, but then I'd have to get rid of all my Julies because of the different dietary requirements right?

All the fish seem happy, a few guppies where born while I was gone. One minor incident where 1/4 of my 55gal siphoned onto the floor through an air hose that the cat dislodged... hate that cat.

Be glad if bees are all that you are allergic too. I went down and we built 3 homes and I'm still fighting off some strange disease that has the docs stump 9 months later. Which sucks because I wanted to go back and build some more houses....

Nice tank by the way I'm not into affricans but I am into cheap tanks.,..

I hope you get better Sounguru. My hand is almost back to normal.

Yesterday I went to pick up two juvie frontosa that I found on CL for 30$. Turns out the guy breeds Tanganyikans! He gave me a deal I couldn't refuse, and I ended up going home with 13 fish. I got the two Fronts, seven approx 3" yellow leleupi, and four of what I think areNeolamprologus savoryi, although he called them "electric blues", I was unable to find any thing like them under that common name. He said they'd color up when they get bigger, I dunno, but they where a bonus, and I like them anyways.

Still looking for some top level swimmers, as everybody seems to hug the bottom and the rocks. Also I need to get rid of some of the Julies.

If any AC member happens to be in the Bay Area, Morgan Hill specifically, you can drop by and I'll GIVE you a couple, or maybe trade something, but I'm not shipping.
