Well, my daughter's Christmas tank is set up now! She got a 150 gallon high from "Santa". Santa seems to have a fish addiction.

We set it up and I changed out one of the baskets in her filstar with one of the ones from my established tank, so I'm hoping cycling is minimal. I also put in some crushed coral to try and avoid any pH crashes with my soft water. She started with danios and cherry barbs.

I'm really enjoying the Las Vegas atmosphere of her tank (it looks very nice in a kid's room). She has plastic plants (green) with flowers, a ruined castle with caves underneath, some aerated skeletons and a sunken ship, and a fiber optics mermaid that has some interestingly lit up seashells...

Fun! Now I just have to finish setting up the two 55's that I got for Christmas. :)

I wish I had a parent like you growing up.:D I had to wait until I was out on my own to get a tank. HAve any pics yet?

I'm having to do the water changes of course, since the tank is too tall for her to do them. But she helps me change the water in our smaller tanks so I feel like she is still learning that responsibility. I really like how much time we spend together when we watch fish and how much science she learns. She surprises my parents when they come over by rattling off species names and knowing the nitrogen cycle. She doesn't watch much TV and doesn't have the latest video gaming system (or even an old gaming system), but I think she seems well entertained and happy. :)

When I was 8 my dad built a huge sandbox in my room for our turtles... so I guess I get it honest. He did make the mistake of a 10 gallon tank with 8 goldfish though...
