new 25g nano reef setup

Swimfins

This is as good as it gets.
I've gone over to the dark side:

I just set up my 25g long tank with 17 pounds of LR and yesterday added 11 more pounds more of some really nice Fijii rock. I'm still waiting out the cycle because the new rock I added yesterday was uncured. (I am going slowly and researching thngs as I go).
Question: I am using an aquaclear 70 powerhead. It is powerful and can easily pick up gravel. How can I cover the intake to prevent this happening to the animals I'll eventually keep? I tried covering the intake with a nylon stocking and elastic, but as soon as it was plugged in, I looked at the powerhead and the screen I made was gone. I searched all thru the rock thinking it got blown into a cave or something. But the next day I turned off the powerhead to settle some debris I stirred up from rearranging and found the nylon and elastic inside the powerhead intake. What would this do to fishies or lil creatures??? I hate to think.

What to do about it?

I know with AC HOB filters you can switch out the impeller for a lower size - right now I'm using an AC 50 impeller on my AC 70 HOB (modded into a little refugium), and planning to actually go down to a 20 because the flow is still too high, even with a baffle. You may be able to switch the impeller, if not the only thing I can think of is getting a smaller PH.

Keep us updated, and if you can, post a pic once you're happy with the aquascaping, I want to see the new tank! :D

I'll work on covering the intake pf the powerhead once more, maybe tie a whole stocking leg pver it lol. I went to big als in Pointe Claire yesterday and found another bag of aragonite, sand whoppee! So it was a dust storm all day yesterday. But I think I can take pics today if I get out to buy some batteries.
