New 36 hal. tank cycle ?

I would agree to keep up with the water changes to keep ammonia and nitrite under .25. Your tank will still cycle even though you are changing the water, and it is necessary to do so if you want your fish to survive.

I am also a bit confused by your stocking as well - goldfish are a coldwater fish, not meant to be in tropical water in the mid 70s. They also grow quite large and are very messy, therefore adding a lot to your bioload. It really belongs in a different aquarium. If the pleco is a common pleco, I would also say get rid of it ASAP, they grow to 18 inches, are enormous, and extremely messy. Tiger barbs and tetras are both schooling fish, and need to be in groups of 6 or more (though you shouldn't get any more fish until you are through cycling!!) To me, your tank already seems overstocked because of the goldfish and pleco, so I would say definitely choose one or the other (I'd choose tetras, personally).

I agree the Cycle stuff does nothing, at least not that I've ever noticed. Just keep testing and keep up on water changes.
