New 55g Tank

Polypterus senegalus
Size 12" (30cm), but can reach 16" (40cm) in the wild.
Tank setup Large tank, with bogwood and a few plants for decor, sandy substrate
Compatibility Predatory, keep with larger fish.

Feeding Carnivore, feed live foods and dead meaty foods such as earthworms, cockles, mussels and frozen fish such as silversides or whitebait.

May show aggression towards others of its own species, especially if the aquarium does not provide refuges for each fish. Like most bichirs, they have a reputation for escaping from tanks, so use a tight-fitting cover. Will eat small fish.

Anyone know where I can find a price on this? I looked a little on google but only got bios... Thanks in advance! :)

How will I know when the cycling is finished? I read the article about Cycle and how it dosn't work but my manager at work swears by it. So many different oppinions?

to do a fishless cycle, add bottled ammonia to the tank until it reaches 4 or 5ppm. wait. test.

when you see the nitrItes begin to rise, the ammonia should be going down. keep waiting, keep testing.

eventually you will have to start adding ammonia. try to keep the ammonia around 2ppm.

once you can add ammonia up to 2ppm and it reaches 0 within 24 hours, and your nitrItes are also 0, your cycle is complete. do a large water change to get the nitrAtes down to about 10ppm, and add fish. if your not ready to add fish, keep feeding with bottled ammonia to keep the bacteria alive until you are ready to add fish.

also, cycle is a waste of money. if you want a quick cycle, use biospira. its the only one worth the money. but FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!!!! biospira+fishless cycle= lots of wasted time and money. i speak from expirience.

What all do I need to cycle entirely? Like can I get a shopping list?

Thanks :)

pure ammonia (in other words with out soap in it) and a test kit that tests for ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites i think thats all you really need as far as JUST cycling goes correct me if im wrong oOo and dont forget to dechlorinate i forgot once biiiig mistake ill never do it again

About how much should all the cycling equipment cost? Anyone know on average? Thanks a bunch! I'll be sure to show the results of my 55!

http://www.petsmart.com/global/prod...<>ast_id=2534374302023693&bmUID=1133632283063

print out the above page, take it to your local petsmart, and have them price match the "Freshwater master test kit" its $14.99 on the website, but $24.99 in the store, so you'll save $10 there.

that includes an ammonia test, nitrite, nitrate, pH high, and pH tests. they last forever and they are WELL worth the price to get a liquid test kit.

as for the ammonia, just go to walmart, they have a jug of their store brand ammonia in the cleaning asle for $0.98 it contains only water, ammonia, and chelating agent. this is ALL the ammonia should contain, anything else will kill your fish.

I just came from petSmart and they verified they will,on most products, give you the price online with a printout..

Printing my kit page up right now..

Sweeeet! I'm gonna have to go monday when I get paid and do that then...
