Well I did it! I finally bought my second tank a bare 90gall for 150. Someone on here told me that was expensive, but I've been looking around and thought this was cheap! Yeah there are some good deals but the BEST deals I have found are like a 4 hr drive from me. Anyways I'm going tonight at 8 to pick up my new 90 gall fish tank! Soo excited I finally bought my tank, going to buy another one soon hopefully a much smaller one maybe one between 30-55 galls have to wait and see! Anyways, I have a 10 gall now, and I was wondering about equipment for the 90 gall. I've seen pictures on here of the bigger tanks and they have quite the equipment on their tanks, and I want to do this right! It's going to be a while before I get this tank up and running.

I also have another question, this may seem weird and a silly question but would you need two heaters one on either side of the tank to make sure the temperature is equal throughout the water?

Ohh and any stocking suggestions? I'd like to keep it more community just not one specific type of fish!

for a 90 I'd run a sump and keep the heaters in the sump.

is the tank drilled?

large tanks need large filtration.

No you could run 2 filters like an Aquaclear 110 or a bio wheel 350 on each side or got 1 hob and do a canister filter eheim's are good if you have the money. if not i suggest a AC 110 and a Rena XP3 would work great. as for stocking what type of fish you wanting, give us an idea and we'll help from there. like many small schoals of tetras and what not. as far as heater goes yes it is best to put 2 in that tank one on each side. best one i heard every one talk about is the stealth by marineland.

Twin heaters, 200 watt each

Two Mag 350

4 Penguin 660 RUGF

Thanks guys! I think when I have time gonna hit some LFS and check out prices and their equipment! My mommy is so funny, she told me I had to keep the tank on the floor incase it falls over and spills everywhere or something! I wanted to bust out laughing, never heard of a falling over fish tank all by itsself.. But I'm going to ask for my birthday if somebody will make me a stand :P

Is the tank drilled? I have no clue! lol I don't even know what that means!

As for fishes, oh gads I have no idea! I'm still learning about the different types of fishes! I would love to get some Balas but from what I've read the information has been different. Theres one side that says nothing less then a 55gal but then I've also read nothing smaller then 150g. I really want colour in the tank.

and I don't know if I want plants in this tank. I was planning to get another tank anywheres from 30-55gall, and switch my 10 gall fish into there and use my 10 gall to practice with plants! lol.

For filteration you can go with two canisters one on each side(I prefer the eheims but they trend to be pricey). Or you can go with one canister and one HOB filter such as an Aquaclear 110/500. You could also opt for two HOB filters one on each side. It is really up to you and how you want it to look and also money or lack of it can play a part in the decision on filters for the tank.In the long run, for a tank of that size, canisters do a much better job at filtering the tank and offer a cleaner look. For heaters, two of them would be best, one on each side of the tank to equalize the temperature throughtout the tank.

As far as stocking the tank, that is up to you. Look around and see what you like. Choose a centerpiece fish and then create the look you want around that. .

I have a 90G and use:

2@ 250W heaters
1@ AquaClear 90 (RUGF)
1@ Penguin 400 (I think it's the 400 anyways - The big one)

I mention this b/c I am not happy with the filtration at all and will be going to a canister shortly. I will keep the RUGF, but I am looking into a ehiem 2026

Thanks so much for all this helpful information.. I don't mean to sound dumb but what is the difference between an HBO filter and a Canister filter?
